The Supreme Court (SC) asked the Lok Sabha (LS) secretary general to respond to Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra's against her expulsion from the LS in the cash-for-query case. The court has ordered the LS General Secretary to file a reply within three weeks. The SC will further hear this case in the week starting from March 11.

The hearing was conducted by the bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutta in the Supreme Court. Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Moitra had requested for a hearing in February and relief in view of the budget session. But the court rejected both the demands. Moitra was expelled from the House on December 8 for 'unethical conduct' following her sharing of LS members' portal credentials with unauthorised people. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi moved a motion to get the TMC MP expelled following a heated debate in the LS, where Moitra was not allowed to speak. Mahua has challenged the decision of the LS in the SC and raised questions on the action. Earlier, the SC had held a hearing on 15 December. SC Justice Sanjeev Khanna had said that we did not get a chance to read the file of Mahua's application. The court had postponed the hearing of the case till January 3.
