The Karnataka High Court on Friday upheld the Karnataka government's ban on export of iron-ore and freezing of mineral dispatch permits and asked the government to put in place measures to regulate mining of ore within six months.

While dismissing the petitions of nearly 24 mining companies challenging the ban, the judjes found no infirmity in the government's order, as they were satisfied that the impugned orders were passed for the sole aim and object of eradicating illegal activities related to mining, transportation and storage of iron-ore.

Now, the mining industry plans to move the Supreme Court for relief. The Karnataka government had passed orders banning export of iron-ore from 10 ports in the state and stoppage of mineral dispatch permits on July 26 and July 28, respectively.
