India’s wholesale inflation stands at -1.81% in June

India’s inflation based on wholesale price index (WPI) stood at -1.81% in the month of June as compared to 2.02% during the corresponding month of the previous year.

Component wise, primary articles index having weight of 22.62%, increased by (2.28%) to 139.3 (provisional) in June, 2020 from 136.2 (provisional) for the month of May, 2020. Among the primary articles, prices of crude petroleum & natural gas, food articles and non-food articles increased as compared to May, 2020, while prices of minerals declined as compared to May 2020.

Fuel & Power index, having weight of 13.15%, increased by (5.50%) to 88.3 (provisional) in June 2020 from 83.7 (provisional) for the month of May, 2020. Prices of mineral oils group increased compared to month of May, 2020, while prices of coal and electricity remain unchanged.

Manufactured Products constituting the major portion of the index with weight of 64.23%, increased by (0.42%) to 118.6 (provisional) in June 2020 from 118.1 (provisional) for the month of May, 2020. Meanwhile, the figures of WPI for June, 2020 have been compiled at a response rate of around 70 per cent. These provisional figures of WPI will undergo revision as per the final revision policy of WPI.
