In a major relief to corporate lobbyist Niira Radia, the Delhi High Court (HC) has put a stay on the release and circulation of a book ‘Close Encounters with Niira Radia’ authored by noted criminal lawyer R K Anand on Radia’s controversial, tapped telephonic conversation with various high profile individuals.

Radia’s plea that the release of the book would cause irreparable loss to her reputation in the society was accepted by Justice V K Jain. The book was slated for release in the first week of June. Along with seeking a ban on the book, Radia has also sought Rs 1 crore as damages alleging Anand and the publisher have attempted to defame her by revealing 'privileged communications' between a lawyer and a client.

Meanwhile, the court has fixed the hearing on July 22 on Radia's plea and has further issued notices to Har-Anand Publications and Anand, and has asked them to file responses.

Earlier, the HC refused to stay the release of movie 'Monica - the Politics of Murder', alleged to be about the life of Ms Radia on the grounds that a person in public life cannot claim guarantee under Article 21 of Constitution for fundamental right to privacy.
