RS adjourned till March 13 amid Opposition protests

Rajya Sabha (RS) proceedings were adjourned till March 13 amid continuous protests by Opposition parties over suspension of Congress MP Rajani Patil and demand for JPC probe in Hindenburg-Adani row.

The House was first adjourned till 11.50 am and now it is scheduled to commence proceedings again from March 13 at to April 6, for the second part of the Budget session. The disruptions started soon after the House met for the day at 11 am and 'Zero House' was allowed following papers were laid on the table. As the Chairman declined the notices of several Opposition leaders, the members trooped into the well of the house and started raising slogans ‘JPC se Jaanch Karao’ (investigate through JPC). Before the first adjournment, RS Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar named several MPs and warned them for not to indulge in such acts that disrupt the proceedings of the House as several opposition members trooped into the well of the House sloganeering. RS Chairman also has urged to everyone in the House to help in running it smoothly.

Meanwhile, Mallikarjun Kharge objected to expunging his remarks during the discussion of the Motion of Thanks on the President's address, and suspension of Congress MP Rajni Patil earlier. The Chairman allowed the 'Question Hour' after the House again assembled at 11.50 am but he had to adjourn it till March 13, after a brief attempt to run the House amid the din. Addressing a press conference after the House was adjourned, BJP leaders Pralhad Joshi and Piyush Goyal demanded an apology from Opposition leaders for allegedly obstructing the functioning of Parliament.
