Meghalaya Polls: BJP chief JP Nadda releases party's election manifesto

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief JP Nadda today released the poll manifesto of the party for the upcoming Meghalaya Assembly elections.

JP Nadda said that the party will enhance by Rs 2000 annually the amount paid to farmers under PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi and give a bond of Rs 50,000 on the birth of a girl child, and provide free education to girls from kindergarten to post-graduation. The BJP President said women would get 33 percent reservation in government jobs and free scooty would be provided to meritorious college-going students if party is voted to power. BJP President also promised several schemes of women and youth empowerment.

The party promised to launch a support scheme of financial assistance of Rs 24,000 annually to dependant widows and single mothers to empower them. BJP announced the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission in Meghalaya and disbursement of salaries of the govt if party is voted to power. In its Sankalp Patra, the BJP further announced to form an STF under the chairmanship of a retired Supreme Court judge to investigate the corruption cases in the state.

Meanwhile, campaigning has intensified with leaders from national parties are addressing election meetings and rallies in the state. All the three Garo, Khasi and Jaintia Hill regions are abuzz with public meetings, community gatherings and door-to-door campaigns. The polling in Meghalaya will take place on February 27 and votes will be counted on March 2.
