BJP leader Manik Saha today took oath as the Tripura chief minister (CM) for a second consecutive time after.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang attended the ceremony at Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala. Former CM of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb was also present on the stage. Along with Saha, 8 elected members of the legislative assembly, including Ratan Lal Nath and Pranjit Singha Roy, Shantana Chakma, Sushanta Chowdhury, Tinku Roy, Bikash Debbarma, Sudhangshu Das, and Sukla Charan Nuatia took oaths as the council of ministers of the newly formed government. The opposition CPM and the Congress have decided to boycott the swearing-in ceremony to protest against post-poll violence in the state.
Manik Saha won his first-ever Assembly poll battle last year, defeating three-term MLA and Congress leader Ashish Kumar Saha by 6,104 votes in the 2022 bypolls. He secured his second victory with a margin of 1,257 votes in the polls this year. He took charge of the chair last year after the resignation of Biplab Kumar Deb.
