Both Houses of Parliament adjourned till Tuesday amid ruckus over Rahul Gandhi's London speech

The proceedings of Lok Sabha (LS) and Rajya Sabha (RS) were adjourned till 11 am tomorrow amid uproar over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in London on democracy in India.

In the LS when the House met this morning, treasury bench members started sloganeering against Rahul Gandhi. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh raised the issue alleging that Mr. Gandhi, who is a member of this House, insulted India by his comments. Rajnath Singh and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi over his speech in London. Amid slogans and counter slogans between treasury and opposition bench members, Speaker Om Birla said the world accepts that Indian democracy is strong enough. He repeatedly asked the protesting members for order in the House but in vain. In RS also witnessed ruckus following Leader of the House Piyush Goyal’s speech targeting Rahul Gandhi and his London remarks.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in RS and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that BJP is not following rules. He said that there is no rule of law and democracy under Modi ji. They are running the country like a dictatorship, and then they talk about democracy. Earlier in the day, both the houses of Parliament were adjourned till 2 pm amid chaos by the Opposition leaders. The second-half of the Budget session has resumed today after a month long recess and it will continue till the 6th of April. The first half of the Budget session also witnessed repeated adjournments due to protest by Opposition and demand for JPC probe in the Adani issue.
