The BJP has moved the Election Commission (EC) seeking action against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and derecognition of her party for her use of the term ‘sovereignty’ for Karnataka during state poll campaign in Hubbali on May 06.
A BJP delegation headed by Union Minister Bhupender Yadav met EC in Delhi and submitted a memorandum to the poll watchdog over the issue. The party said that Karnataka is a very important member state in the Union of India and any call to protect the sovereignty of a member state of the Union of India amounts to a call for secession and is fraught with perilous and pernicious consequences. The BJP also submitted a copy of the Congress tweet quoting Gandhi on the issue.
Party leader Tarun Chugh said that BJP has moved EC demanding derecognition of Congress for using the 'sovereignty' term for Karnataka. Union Minister Bhupender Yadav said that Congress manifesto is the agenda of the 'Tukde-Tukde' gang and hence they are using such words. The party has also urged the EC to take strict against Sonia Gandhi and demanded an apology from her.
