Bihar Chief Minister (CM) Nitish Kumar and his deputy Tejashwi Yadav met former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai. The meeting was held at Uddhav's residence Matoshree. Aaditya Thackeray was also present during the meeting.
The meeting comes amid talks of Opposition unity ahead of the 2024 general elections. While interacting with the media after the meeting, the former Maharashtra CM said that Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav had come to Mumbai to save democracy. Reacting to the Supreme Court's verdict on the political crisis in Maharashtra following the rift in the Shiv Sena, Uddhav Said that the governor's role was completely illegal. Uddhav Thackeray admitted that he committed a mistake by resigning from the post before the floor test. He also demanded the resignations of CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis.
Nitish Kumar said that all opposition parties should come together and fight against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the centre. As part of Opposition unity against the BJP at the Centre ahead of next year's LS elections, Nitish Kumar has been meeting leaders of various opposition parties. On Tuesday, the Bihar CM met his Odisha counterpart Naveen Patnaik in Bhubaneswar. Kumar is also expected to meet Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar today. He is also planning a big meeting of all Opposition Leaders in Delhi on May 18. Last year in August, the Janata Dal-United (JDU) chief Nitish Kumar snapped his ties with the BJP and formed an alliance with the Rashtriya Jaata Dal (RJD).
