The Parliament proceedings were adjourned for the second day in a row amid an uproar over the violence in Manipur. The proceedings will now resume on Monday.

Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned in the morning session after an uproar over the Manipur issue and the chair expunging certain words from house proceedings. The upper house witnessed uproarious scenes when it reassembled for the post-lunch session. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar informed the House about the meeting of the business advisory committee held on Thursday and said that the report of the committee be taken into account and tabled. He then adjourned the proceedings of the house for the day.

Lok Sabha witnessed uproar as soon as the House met for the day. The members, including those from the Congress, DMK and Left, raised slogans and told Speaker Om Birla that ‘Manipur is bleeding’. Speaker Om Birla said that sloganeering will not bring any solution to the problem but only dialogues and discussions can. Rajnath Singh said that the government was ready for a discussion on the Manipur violence. He said the Manipur situation should be taken seriously and the seriousness of the government was reflected when the prime minister himself said that the entire country was feeling ashamed over the Manipur incidents. Singh added that opposition is unnecessarily creating problems so that no discussions take place on Manipur situation. When the House assembled again at 12 noon, opposition rushed to the Well of the House by raising slogans demanding the presence of the prime minister in Lok Sabha. Rajendra Agrawal, who was in the chair, asked members to return to their seats. However, opposition members ignored and continued their protest. As the protest continued Agarwal adjourned the proceedings for the day.
