Union Home Minister Amit Shah today said that the centre was ready to hold discussion in Lok Sabha (LS) on the ongoing situation in Manipur and questioned why the opposition is not ready for it. He requested opposition leaders to allow debate, saying it was important for truth to come out before the country on the Manipur issue.

During a brief speech in LS, shah said ‘I am ready for discussion on this in the House. I request the Opposition to let a discussion take place on this issue. It is important that the country gets to know the truth on this sensitive matter’. Shah made these remarks after the House faced three adjournments due to the heated arguments over Manipur situation. When the house met at 2.30 pm after the previous adjournments Shah said leaders from ruling as well as opposition parties had been wanting to hold discussion on the Manipur issue. However, opposition members continued with their protest demanding a statement by the prime minister, Speaker Om Birla adjourned the proceedings for the day.

Since the commencement of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, the Opposition has been demanding a statement from the Prime Minister and a discussion on the situation in Manipur arose after a disturbing video clip emerged, allegedly showing two women being paraded naked by a mob in a Manipur village on May 4. In a previous session, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also assured in LS that the centre is ready to address the issue.
