Union Home Minister Amit Shah moved the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 in the Lok Sabha (LS) today. The Bill aims to replace the existing ordinance on services control in the national capital.
While, moving the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 in the LS, Amit Shah said this ordinance refers to the order of the Supreme Court which says that the Parliament to has the right to make laws on any issue related to the National Capital Territory of Delhi. Defending the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, he said that there are provisions in the constitution that allow the centre to make laws for Delhi. Shah accused the AAP of indulging in confrontation instead of governance. He targeted Kejriwal over allegations of corruption related to bungalow renovations. He asserted that the party that came to power in 2015 had an agenda centered around conflict rather than service.
Union Home Minister also targeted the Opposition bloc INDIA for its support to the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government in Delhi. With AAP a member of the I.N.D.I.A bloc of opposition parties, Amit Shah said they should support the bill on the basis of what is good for Delhi and not on any other consideration. Shah also appealed to parties to not support all the corruption taking place in Delhi just because of the alliance. Arvind Kejriwal has been seeking support of opposition parties against the bill, especially in the Rajya Sabha. Parties of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A) are opposing the bill.
