Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati today called a key meeting with the BSP party leaders in Lucknow to discuss the party’s preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha (LS) elections. The meeting was attended by the Chief Zone-in-charge, the district president, and the office bearers of the All India Backward and Minority Communities Employees Federation (BAMCEF) at the party headquarters in Lucknow.
In the meeting, strengthening & expansion of the organization, preparations for high stakes battle and booth-level poll strategy, were discussed. The BSP remains unaligned not having joined the INDIA alliance or the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the BJP. Earlier in month, BSP released a list of its first seven candidates for the upcoming Assembly election in Madhya Pradesh which is scheduled for later this year. Of these seven assembly constituencies, two seats are in Rewa, two in Satna, and one each in Chhatarpur, Niwari and Morena districts.
In the last general election (2019), BSP had an electoral tie-up with Samajwadi Party led by Akhilesh Yadav. The two parties failed to make an impact with the BSP winning 10 of the 38 seats it contested, while SP contested on 37 seats and won 5. After that debacle the BSP decided to go it alone in the assembly elections in 2022.
