Ahead of the special parliament session commencing from September 18, Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chairperson Sonia Gandhi has written a letter to Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi demanding a detailed discussion on several issues including violence in Manipur.
In her letter to the PM Modi, Sonia Gandhi said that the Opposition most certainly wants to participate in the special session as it will give an opportunity to raise matters of public concern and importance. She pointed out that no agenda has been listed for the special Parliament session. Sonia Gandhi has stressed on the need to discuss several issues including the current economic situation of the country, inflations, caste census during the special session. The Congress leader further demanded that a discussion on the rise in communal tension in different states like Haryana and the continued ‘occupation of Indian Territory by China’ should take place. Sonia Gandhi also demanded discussion over the rift between several states and the Centre and demanded for a JPC to investigate the transactions of the Adani business group. She further said that in a spirit of constructive cooperation, these issues should be taken up in the forthcoming special session.
The five-day special session of Parliament is expected to begin in the old building and will later be moved to the new Parliament building on September 19, on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.
