Chhattisgarh election 2023: Congress sets up core committees

Ahead of assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, the Congress party today formed election committees. The committees include an Election Campaign Committee, Core Committee, Communications Committee, and Protocol Committee.

The 7-member Core Committee is headed by Kumari Selja and other members are chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, President of Chhattisgarh Congress Deepak Baij, deputy chief minister T S Singh Deo, Tamradhwaj Sahu and Shiv Kumar Sahariya. Charan Dass Mahant will be the chairperson of the 74-member Election Campaign Committee, with chief minister Baghel, his deputy Deo, Tamradhwaj Sahu, Ravinder Chaubey, Mohd Akbar, Shiv Kumar Dahariya, Kawaki Lakhma, Premsai Singh Tekam and Anila Bhendiya as members. Ravindra Choubey has been appointed as the Chairperson and Rajesh Tiwari and Vinod Verma as Conveners, while Sushil Anand Shukla will be the coordinator of the Communications Committee. The party also set up a 25-member Protocol Committee with Amarjeet Bhagat as its chairperson, Shiv Singh Thakur as its convener and Ajay Sahu as coordinator. 

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the proposal for the constitution of these committees with immediate effect. Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh are scheduled to be held later this year with the ruling Congress seeking to retain power for the second time in a row.
