Amid the ongoing debate in Parliament over the implementation of the Women's Reservation Bill, Bihar Chief Minister (CM) today Nitish Kumar alleged that the BJP-led central government would not implement the bill and that it was only brought forward to gain political advantage in the elections.

While speaking to the media in Patna, Nitish Kumar said, ‘Women's Reservation is necessary and we have been demanding it since the beginning. They will not implement it’. He also said ‘They won't implement the bill; if they want to do so, they have already done so.’ The discussion to pass the bill in the House started at 11 am today with Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introducing the amendments in the Bill. The bill will be introduced in the Rajya Sabha on September 21.

Meanwhile, Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi has extended her party's support to the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act 2023’ bill, demanding immediate implementation of the Women's Reservation Bill. She also asked the Centre to carry out a caste census to ensure participation of women from Other Backward Class/Scheduled Caste (OBC/SC) communities. Criticizing the Centre for not including women from the backward and scheduled caste (SC) community, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari urged the Centre to pass the 2010 Bill in Lok Sabha and start the reservation. ‘I challenge that if BJP's policy and intention are honest, then give a guarantee that women will get a reservation in 2024 elections - we will stand with you with all our strength,’ MP Tiwari added.
