In order to assess preparedness in the poll-bound state, the Election Commission will be on a three-day visit to Rajasthan from Friday. Similarly, from October 3, the poll panel will also visit Telangana and review the election preparations there.
Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Gupta said that Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, Election Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goyal will hold a meeting with representatives of recognised political parties in Jaipur on Friday, September 29. During this time, the team will review the preparations for the assembly elections in the state. After this, the Commission will hold meeting with nodal officers of the Rajasthan Police, Income Tax, Excise, Transport, Commercial Tax Department, Railways and Airport etc.
It is believed that after visiting Rajasthan and Telangana, the Election Commission is likely to announce the election schedule in the first week of October. Apart from Rajasthan and Telangana, assembly elections are likely to be held in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Mizoram in November-December. The tenure of the assemblies of Telangana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan is ending on different dates in January next year, while the term of the legislative assembly of Mizoram ends on December 17 this year.
