Congress holds CEC meeting for Madhya Pradesh assembly polls

The Congress party held a Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting today at the AICC (All India Congress Committee) headquarters in Delhi in view of assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh. 

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, MPs Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal and other party leaders attended the meeting. The party is likely to finalise the first list of around 140 candidates for the forthcoming assembly polls in the meeting and the list is expected to be released on the first day of Navratri, October 15. After the CEC meeting, Congress leader and general secretary in-charge of Madhya Pradesh Randeep Surjewala said a lot of seats were discussed during the meeting and there was a very positive discussion. The way the State Congress Committee President is coordinating, it shows that Congress is moving towards victory in Madhya Pradesh.

Earlier, addressing a public gathering in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandla district on Thursday, Priyanka Gandhi announced the Congress’s Padho-Padhao scheme, which gives monthly aid of Rs 500 to the students from Class 1 to Class 8, Rs 1,000 for children from class 9 to 10 and Rs 1,500 per month for class 11 and 12 children. In the 2018 assembly elections, Congress won 114 seats with a vote share of 41.5 percent while BJP got 109 seats with a vote share of 41.6 percent. The polling for the 230-seat Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly will be held on November 17, 2023 in a single phase. The counting of votes will take place on 3rd December.
