Rahul Gandhi kickstarts Congress campaign in poll-bound Mizoram

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today arrived in poll-bound Mizoram to campaign for the party's candidates for the assembly elections.

Rahul Gandhi, who arrived in Aizawl for a two-day visit, started a massive 'padyatra' (foot march) from the city's Chanmari area to Raj Bhavan, a distance of around 4-5 km and address a rally near the governor's house. He was greeted by a crowd of Congress supporters and the public. He is also slated to interact with students in the evening. Tomorrow, he will attend a party leader meeting and address a press conference in Aizawl. He will also visit Lunglei town in the southern part of the state and hold a public meeting there.

During his visit, Gandhi slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that the PM is more interested in the Israel-Hamas war than the ongoing violence in Manipur. He further launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the Centre and said that the demonetisation and Goods and Services Tax (GST) are designed to destroy small and medium businesses in the county. Meanwhile, Congress has also released a list of 39 candidates for the Mizoram Assembly polls with the party's state unit chief Lalsawta was fielded from Aizawl West-III (ST), Lalnunmawia Chuaungo has been nominated from Aizawl North-I (ST). Elections to the 40-member Mizoram assembly will be held on November 7, 2023 in a single phase and counting of votes will take place on December 3.
