The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today released the list of 21 candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Mizoram.
According to the BJP's first list, R Lalbiaktluangi will contest from the Lunglei West seat, Shanti Bikash Chakma from Thorang, Malsawmtluanga from Hachhek and Vanlalhmuaka from the Dampa seat. There were 12 names on this list. While, in the second list of nine candidates, the BJP nominated Judy Zohmingliani for the Tuivawl assembly seat, F Lalremsangi for the Aizwal South-I seat and K Vanlalruati for the Serchhip seat among others. BJP also announced Bhavna Bohra as its candidate for the Pandaria assembly seat in Chhattisgarh, in a separate notification. The BJP's central election committee, which includes Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party chief JP Nadda, approved the names of the candidates for the Mizoram and Chhattisgarh assembly polls.
On the other hand, Congress has declared its candidates for all 40 seats for the Mizoram Assembly elections. The name of party's state unit president Lalsawta is also included in these. The term of the current Mizoram assembly led by CM Zoramthanga (Mizo National Front) will end on December 17. The major parties/alliances contesting the polls this year are MNF, ZPM, Congress, and BJP. Voting for all 40 assembly seats of Mizoram will be held on November 7 in a single phase.
