14 Opposition MPs suspended from LS for remainder of Parliament's Winter Session

Fourteen Opposition members of parliament were suspended today by the Lok Sabha (LS) Speaker for unruly behaviour. The MPs who have been suspended 9 from the Congress, 2 from the CPIM, 2 from the DMK and one from the CPI. Earlier, LS passed a resolution suspending 5 members of parliament from Congress party -- TN Prathapan, Hibi Eden, Dean Kuriakose, Jothi Mani and Ramya Haridas for the rest of the session for irregular conduct. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi moved a resolution amid the din to suspend the five. Later, 9 members of parliament from opposition parties were suspended. They are: Benny Behanan, VK Sreekandan, Mohammad Jawed, PR Natarajan, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, K Subrahmanyam, SR Parthiban, S Venkatesan and Manickam Tagore.

Similarly, Rajya Sabha passed motion for suspension of TMC MP Derek O' Brien for the remainder part of the winter session for his ‘unruly behaviour’ and ‘misconduct’. The motion was moved by Leader of the House Piyush Goyal. The proceedings of the house were adjourned after uproar by opposition members over the TMC leader's suspension.

The Opposition is up in arms over yesterday’s LS security breach and has been demanding a statement from union home minister Amit Shah. They also seek action against BJP MP Pratap Simha on whose recommendation the duo got an access pass to the LS. The Ministry of Home Affairs has initiated a probe into the intrusion, and formed a committee to look into the reasons behind the intrusion and the security lapses, and recommend ways to bolster the security.
