The Congress today said no one can imagine the existence of the opposition I.N.D.I.A bloc without West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) cheif Mamata Banerjee.
During the party's 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra', Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that Banerjee's party Trinamool Congress is an ‘important pillar’ of the opposition alliance and India alliance cannot be imagined without TMC. He said the INDIA bloc would fight like an alliance in West Bengal and hoped that future seat-sharing talks with the TMC would bear fruit. Jairam Ramesh added, ‘Mamata Banerjee has said that it is the main responsibility of all of us to defeat BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.’
This statement of Jairam Ramesh has come when Mamata Banerjee announced that her party will contest the elections alone in Bengal. Mamta said, ‘I had given them (Congress) a proposal on seat sharing but they rejected it in the beginning. Our party has now decided to contest the elections alone in Bengal’.
