A day after the party's lone Lok Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Rinku joined the BJP, Delhi minister and Senior AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj alleged that 'Operation Lotus' has started in Punjab. Operation Lotus refers to the ‘poaching’ or ‘bribing’ of MLAs and MPs of other parties by the BJP, often to form governments in states where they do not have the majority.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Saurabh Bharadwaj raised a question as to why MP (Sushil Kumar Rinku) and MLA (Sheetal Angural), joined hands with the BJP. He said AAP MLAs in Punjab had said on Wednesday that the majority of them were getting calls and being offered money, Y category security and tickets for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls to join the BJP.

Bharadwaj further said what Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal predicted has become true and the BJP is trying to topple governments in Delhi and Punjab. The AAP leader also said that three AAP Punjab MLAs had held a press conference wherein it was discussed that a majority of AAP MLAs received phone calls where they were lured to join the BJP.

Sushil Kumar Rinku, who was made AAP's candidate from Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat, joined the BJP on Wednesday along with the party's Jalandhar West MLA Sheetal Angural. Rinku had left Congress and joined AAP last year to contest the by-election from Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat. He won the Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency by a margin of 58,691 votes in a by-poll in 2023. Rinku said that he had taken this decision for the development of Jalandhar. He also alleged that no development work has been done in Punjab by the AAP government.
