Production of synthetic rubber increases by 9% in July

India’s output of synthetic rubber production surged by 9% in month of July, whereas consumption surged by 8% in the same month. As per the Rubber Board data, during July 2011, India produced around 8,929 tonne of synthetic rubber and consumed around 36,355 tonnes. In July 2010, India’s production and consumption of rubber stood at 8,188 tonne and 33,765 tonnes.

However, on month-on-month basis, rubber’s production declined by 4% to 8,929 from 9,279 tonne in June. Following the production trend, consumption also showed moderation, it fell marginally to 36,355 tonne from 36,945 tonne.

In the first five month of current financial year, the synthetic rubber consumption increased by 10% to 1,45,930 tonne from 1,32,925 tonnes in the same period of last fiscal year. The production increased by 5% to 36,938 tonne in April-July 2011 from 35,144 tonne in April-July 2010.

Country’s synthetic rubber imports rose 8% to 30,005 tonnes in July from 27,832 tonnes in the July 2011. The total stock of synthetic rubber in India at the end of July 2011, stood at 46,180 tonnes.

The synthetic rubber is mostly used in the manufacturing of tyres in India and the auto industry is its main consumer of the synthetic rubber. The sector’s consumption of synthetic rubber surged by 8% to 26,090 tonnes in July compare to 24,063 tonne in July 2010. In April-July 2011, the auto industry’s consumption of synthetic rubber increased by 15% to 1,07,9320 tonne from 93,711 tonne in April-July 2010.
