Congress leader Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination papers for the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Rahul Gandhi was accompanied by Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and her husband Robert Vadra. Rahul Gandhi is also contesting from Wayanad in Kerala, a seat he won in the previous general election. Gandhi will contest against BJP's Dinesh Pratap Singh in Rae Bareli. The Rae Bareli seat was vacated recently by Sonia Gandhi when she became a member of Rajya Sabha. Sonia Gandhi, a four-time MP from Raebareli, won't contest the Lok Sabha Elections this time.

Meanwhile, Congress loyalist K L Sharma filed his nomination for the Amethi Lok Sabha seat. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra encouraged the public in Amethi to support Sharma. Sharma is up against BJP leader and incumbent MP Smriti Irani. Rahul Gandhi has also been an MP from Amethi. However, he lost the seat to Union minister Smriti Irani in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The voting in both Amethi and Raebareli will be held in the fifth phase of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections on May 20.
