PM Modi files nomination papers from Varanasi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today filed his nomination from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh.

PM Modi was accompanied by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath while filing the nomination papers. The leaders include Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, RLD Chief Jayant Chaudhary, LJP leader Chirag Paswan, Apna Dal (S) President Anupriya Patel, and SBSP President Om Prakash Rajbhar were also present there.

PM Modi said it is an honour to serve the people of the historic seat of Varanasi. He said that mother Ganga had adopted him and his bond with Kashi is similar to a mother’s relation with her son. Before filing nomination, Modi offered prayers at the iconic Dashashwamedh Ghat on the banks of the holy river Ganga. On Monday, PM Modi carried out a 6 km roadshow in the streets of Varanasi. 

PM will contest against Uttar Pradesh Congress Chief Ajai Rai and Bahujan Samajwadi Party's (BSP) Athar Ali Lari. Varanasi, the seat that PM Modi has won twice. In the 2019 poll, Modi won the seat by nearly 4.8 lakh votes, a big jump from the 3.72 lakh winning margin in 2014. Voting for the Varanasi Lok Sabha elections will take place on June 1.
