Rajya Sabha was adjourned sine die today after the House adopted the Motion of Thanks on the President's address to the joint sitting Parliament. Speaking on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address in the RS, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that people have given their support to work done by BJP-led NDA govt in last 10 years. PM Modi said that the NDA government is only in power because of the Constitution of India. The Opposition MPs, including BJD MPs, staged a walkout during PM Modi’s speech in RS on Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address.
Before adjourning the House, RS Chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar said, 'Seasoned members conducted them irresponsibly. Disruption erodes prestige of this esteemed institution. Even LoP walked into well of the House and that was a disgrace to Parliamentary conduct. Their walk out was extremely painful. It has set a dangerous precedent.’ Yesterday during the Modi’s speech in Lok Sabha, several Opposition MPs had shouted slogans, clapped, and stormed the Well of the House, ignoring repeated warnings from Speaker Om Birla.
In this session of the parliament, glimpses of a stronger opposition were clearly seen in both houses. The MPs of INDIA bloc constituent parties cornered the NDA government on several issues like NEET paper leak and Agniveer, triggering heated debates and uproar in both houses. Apart from the NEET paper leak and other controversies related to the National Testing Agency (NTA), railway accidents and farmers’ welfare were also raised during the discussion in the Upper House.
The 264th session of Rajya Sabha, which began on June 27, ended after Prime Minister Narendra Modi replied to the motion of thanks, and the House adopted it. Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die on Tuesday. Monsoon Session likely to begin on July 22.
