Several opposition MPs walked out of a meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC committee) on the Waqf Bill, alleging a BJP member had made derogatory remarks about them.

The Opposition MPs accused BJP MP Nishikant Dubey of using abusive language for TMC MP, prompting a ruckus in the JPC meeting. The Opposition members including Kalyan Banerjee, Gaurav Gogoi, A Raja, Mohammad Abdullah and Arvind Sawant walked out of the parliamentary committee meeting. A ruckus took place when the parliamentary panel was hearing a presentation from representatives of the Ministry of Minority Affairs on the bill. After staying away from the meeting for about an hour, Opposition members joined it again. While, BJP members countered, claiming that the Opposition had directed disrespectful remarks towards the committee’s chairman, Jagdambika Pal.

This is the second time in two days that MPs have walked out of the meeting. Yesterday, several opposition MPs on Monday boycotted a meeting of the parliamentary committee meeting alleging that the panel is not functioning in accordance with rules, after Kharge was accused by a deposer of being involved in Waqf land scams.
