Bourses add losses in late afternoon session

Indian equity markets added more losses in late afternoon session. Traders were cautious ahead of Maharashtra assembly election. The broader indices, the BSE Mid cap index and Small cap index were also trading in red. Sector wise, textiles sector remained in focus as Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) in its report, citing government data, has said that textiles exports from India during October were about 11.56 per cent higher at $1,833.95 million, compared to the same month last year. At the same time, apparel exports registered a significant growth of 35.06 per cent during the same period October at $1,227.44 million. 

On the global front, Asian markets were trading mostly in red due to renewed concerns over Trump's potential tariffs and uncertainty over Fed's policy. European markets were trading higher as investors awaited speeches from European Central Bank policymakers including chief Christine Lagarde later in the day for new hints about whether the central bank will cut interest rates again when it meets in December.

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 77384.10, down by 196.21 points or 0.25% after trading in a range of 76965.06 and 77886.97. There were 14 stocks advancing against 16 stocks declining on the index.

The broader indices were trading in red; the BSE Mid cap index declined 0.03%, while Small cap index was down by 0.41%.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Metal up by 2.75%, Realty up by 0.95%, Basic Materials up by 0.77%, Auto up by 0.57% and FMCG was up by 0.40%, while IT down by 2.03%, TECK down by 1.78%, Oil & Gas down by 1.46%, Energy down by 1.04% and Healthcare was down by 0.81% were the top losing indices on BSE.

The top gainers on the Sensex were Tata Steel up by 2.93%, JSW Steel up by 1.72%, Nestle up by 1.39%, Adani Ports up by 1.25% and SBI up by 1.06%. On the flip side, TCS down by 2.88%, Infosys down by 2.52%, NTPC down by 1.80%, Indusind Bank down by 1.51% and Axis Bank down by 1.46% were the top losers.

Meanwhile, in a significant milestone, Ayushman Vay Vandana enrolment crossed 10 lakh mark, within three weeks of the card’s rollout by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on October 29, 2024. 

More than 10 lakh senior citizens aged 70 and above have enrolled for the newly launched Ayushman Vay Vandana Card, enabling them to access free healthcare benefits under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). Around 4 lakh enrolments under Ayushman Vay Vandana card are by females.

Since the launch of the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card, treatments worth over Rs 9 crore have been authorized, benefiting more than 4,800 senior citizens aged 70 and above, including over 1,400 women. These treatments cover a range of conditions, including coronary angioplasty, hip fractures/replacement, gallbladder removal, cataract surgery, prostate resection, and stroke, among others.

The CNX Nifty is currently trading at 23477.95, down by 54.75 points or 0.23% after trading in a range of 23350.40 and 23606.80. There were 23 stocks advancing against 27 stocks declining on the index.

The top gainers on Nifty were Hindalco up by 4.99%, Hero MotoCorp up by 3.04%, Tata Steel up by 2.92%, JSW Steel up by 1.72% and Tata Consumer up by 1.63%. On the flip side, TCS down by 2.82%, BPCL down by 2.55%, Infosys down by 2.55%, Wipro down by 2.47% and Trent down by 2.46% were the top losers.

Asian markets were trading mostly in red; Nikkei 225 slipped 422.06 points or 1.1% to 38,220.85, Taiwan Weighted lost 196.23 points or 0.87% to 22,546.54, Jakarta Composite plunged 27.6 points or 0.39% to 7,133.66, Straits Times fell 14.63 points or 0.39% to 3,730.07 and Shanghai Composite was down by 6.88 points or 0.21% to 3,323.85. On the flip side, KOSPI increased 52.21 points or 2.11% to 2,469.07 and Hang Seng was up by 150.27 points or 0.77% to 19,576.61.

European markets were trading higher; UK’s FTSE 100 increased 21.02 points or 0.26% to 8,084.63, France’s CAC rose 1.31 points or 0.02% to 7,270.94 and Germany’s DAX was up by 30.66 points or 0.16% to 19,241.47.
