Amid continued uproar in Parliament, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla warned MPs that if adjournments further disrupt proceedings, they will have to run the House on Saturday and Sunday as well to make up for the loss of time.
Soon after the Question Hour, Om Birla said, ‘The House will meet on Saturday, December 14 at 11 am. If you continue with the adjournment, you will have to attend the proceedings on Saturday and Sunday as well for the number of days it is adjourned’. He also remarked that he has not permitted intimation of any adjournment notices today.
The government and opposition parties reached an agreement on Monday to break a week-long impasse in Parliament by announcing dates for a discussion on the Constitution, to mark its 75th year of adoption, in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. At a meeting of floor leaders of all parties convened by Om Birla, both the government and the Opposition parties agreed for a special discussion on the Constitution during the session. The government announced that the discussion on the Constitution will be held in the Lok Sabha on 13 and 14 December and in the Rajya Sabha on 16 and 17 December.
Lok Sabha proceedings could not be conducted till Monday due to uproar by opposition members over the Adani controversy, recent violence in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh and other issues.
