The last day of Parliament's winter session was marked by intense protests as INDIA bloc members marched from Vijay Chowk to Parliament, demanding Union home minister Amit Shah's apology and resignation for allegedly ‘insulting’ BR Ambedkar. Both houses of Parliament were subsequently adjourned Sine Die amidst continuing protests.
The protest comes a day after separate protest by the opposition and NDA MPs outside Parliament over Shah’s remarks on Ambedkar resulted in injuries to BJP MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput. A BJP Rajya Sabha MP Phangnon Konyak also accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of ‘misbehaving’ with her during the protest at Parliament. She also requested protection from Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. While, Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that BJP MPs pushed him to the ground, causing a knee injury. Following claims of injuries, police complaints were file by both BJP and Congress.
Before the Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die, the House sent the two bills on 'One Nation, One Election' to a Joint Parliamentary Committee comprising 27 Lok Sabha MPs and 12 Rajya Sabha MPs. Starting from November 15, the winter session addressed numerous significant matters. The both Houses had witnessed uproar over the 'One Nation, One Election' legislation and ruckus over the alleged Adani group bribery accusations raised by the Opposition. While, the BJP targeted the Congress party with claims of ‘Soros-Gandhi nexus.’
