Indian Hotels Company plans major international foray

Indian Hotels Company, part of the Tata Group, in a bid to expand its footprint overseas is planning a major international foray. The company will foray into North Africa in March with a hotel in Marrakech in Morocco. The company is planning to take this step boosted by the jump in demand for rooms at its existing properties.

The Tata Group Company also plans to add 50 hotels and 7,750 rooms in the next three to five years. The country's largest hotel chain operates 126 hotels and 14,250 rooms across the Taj, Vivanta by Taj, Gateway Hotels, and Ginger brands.

The company for the quarter under review reported profit after tax at Rs 8.12 crore as compared to loss of Rs 6.30 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2010. The company’s total income for the second quarter of the current fiscal has increased by 9.25% at Rs 375.21 crore whereas the same was at Rs 343.45 crore for the corresponding quarter of the previous Fiscal.
