Mahindra ties up with Italian co, plans new tractor unit

Mahindra & Mahindra announced a tie-up with Italy based farm equipment company Maschio-Gaspardo S.p.A for getting supply of a complete range of rotary tillage equipment. The partnership with Maschio will help the company provide farmers with greater options for mechanization to increase rural productivity and efficiency.

As part of this agreement between Maschio and Mahindra AppliTrac (part of Mahindra & Mahindra's farm equipment sector) the Italian company will manufacture rotovators. This will be bearing the Mahindra brand name which will be available through both Mahindra and Swaraj dealerships.
M&M is also planning to set up a Greenfield tractor manufacturing facility in Southern India, with an investment of over 200 crore having production capacity of 1 lakh tractors annually. The first phase production from there shall be of 50,000 units annually. The company is expected to take a final call on the project in next two-to-three months.
