Bharti Telecom, the majority stakeholder in private telecom operator Bharti Airtel, has hiked the stake in India’s top mobile phone carrier by purchasing two lakh shares of the company for Rs 6.51 crore through open market transactions. With these transactions, the stake of Bharti Telecom in the company now stands at 45.69 percent.
Bharti Telecom has purchased 1.76 lakh shares for over Rs 5.73 crore and 24,000 shares for Rs 78 lakh from exchange on December 19, 2011. Prior to this, Bharti Telecom held 45.54 percent stake in Bharti Airtel, as per the shareholding pattern available on the exchange for the quarter ended September.
Bharti Airtel offers mobile voice and data services, fixed line, high speed broadband, IPTV, DTH, turnkey telecom solutions for enterprises and national and international long distance services to carriers. The company has been ranked among the six best performing technology companies in the world by business week.
Recently, Bharti Airtel added 9,60,083 mobile subscribers in November. Following the said addition, the company’s total subscriber count stood at 17.46 crore.
