Hindustan Unilever (HUL) is currently trading at Rs. 409.50, up by 8.30 points or 2.07% from its previous closing of Rs. 401.20 on the BSE.
The scrip opened at Rs. 400.00 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 412.50 and Rs. 398.50 respectively. So far 3,75,000 shares were traded on the counter.
The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 1 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 412.50 on 16-Dec-2011 and a 52 week low of Rs. 264.50 on 22-Mar-2011.
Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 412.50 and Rs. 388.30 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 88,468.00 crore.
The promoters holding in the company stood at 52.52% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 29.78% and 17.71% respectively.
HUL, in an effort to fight against the shrinking margins has hiked the retail prices of premium bathing soaps by 2.6-5.5%. The price of 90 gm pink and white Lux soap has been raised by Rs 1 to Rs 19 while the prices of 45 gm and 75 gm packs of Dove soap have also been hiked by Rs 1 to Rs 19 and Rs 39 respectively.
The company has also increased the 100 gm and 150 gm packs of Rexona soap by Re 1, which now retail at Rs 19 and Rs 32, respectively. The company has also raised the price of the 100 gm pack of Hamam soap, which now retails for Rs 19.
This price hike will help HUL protect its margin. While palm oil prices have stabilised, rupee depreciation has hit the company, warranting a price hike.
Recently, HUL board had approved a proposal for entering into a strategic alliance with Tata Teleservices and Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) for distribution of latter’s telecom products by leveraging company’s distribution network in rural markets in India.
