Neyveli Lignite shuts-down Unit-VII in TPS-I

Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC), the public sector lignite mining and power generation enterprise has shut down one of its Unit immediately as an industrial accident occurred on May 20, 2014 in TPS-I at Neyveli wherein the High Pressure Heater No 8 of Unit-VII (Capacity - 100 MW) got damaged and dislocated, resulting in injuries to six persons including death of one executive.

The committee has been constituted to analyze the cause of the accident and suggest measures to bring back the Unit into operation. The operation of the Unit will be resumed after carrying out the repairs. All other running units of TPS-I are in operation.

Neyveli Lignite Corporation is engaged in the business of lignite mining and power generation. At present, the company has four opencast lignite mines with a capacity of about 30.60 million tonnes per annum, while it can produce about 2,740 MW of power from four power plants.
