Power Grid agrees to increase transmission corridor by 500 MW

26 Dec 2011 Evaluate

In a bid to help the Southern region in partially meeting additional power demand, the Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) has agreed to add on the transmission corridor by 500 MW for 10 hours every day till May.

This move is likely to enable AP Transco to draw more power from January to May from the Eastern region to reduce the power shortage to some extent. The permission to evacuate 500 MW more would help tide over the major constraint of getting power from other regions to meet the growing demand-supply mismatch.

PGCIL is India’s principal electric power transmission company. It owns and operates most of India’s interstate and inter-regional electric power transmission systems with inter-regional power transfer capacity of about 20,800 MW and wheels nearly 45% of total power generated across India.
