Tata Motors to export World Truck range from next fiscal

18 Nov 2010 Evaluate

Tata Motors plans to kick off exports of its World Truck range, also referred to as Prima, from 2011-12. On the radar are South Africa, Latin America and West Asia. The company has already sent out vehicles for trials to some countries, including South Africa, as it already has existing market for high tonnage tippers.

Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicles, the Korean arm (which worked on the platform with its parent company), is also likely to export the World Truck. Both companies will jointly chart out an export strategy keeping in mind their product range and the markets where they have a strong presence.

Tata Motors is working towards creation of a strong base in India too for these trucks which have higher horse power and carrying capacity than conventional ones. The company's exports of trucks and buses have grown substantially this fiscal thanks to the renewed focus on SAARC countries, Africa and Latin America. Numbers have more than doubled to 32,648 units so far. Tata Motors is also setting up assembly plants for commercial vehicles in South Africa and Myanmar which are likely to be commissioned by the end of this fiscal.
