Cairn India has secured environmental clearance to raise production from its prolific Barmer block in Rajasthan. The company has received approval to augment hydrocarbon production from the RJ-ON-90/01 Block in Barmer to 300,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) from the current limit of 200,000 bopd.
Cairn India, which has been operating in the country for close to two decades in India, contributes almost 30% of India’s domestic crude oil production. To date, the company has opened 4 frontier basins with over 40 discoveries, 31 in Rajasthan alone.
The company achieved the targeted production rate of 200,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd) from the Rajasthan block in March 2014. The block also reached a landmark cumulative oil production of 200 million barrels within less than five years of inception, contributing significantly to the country’s energy needs.
Cairn India is primarily engaged in the business of oil and gas exploration, production and transportation. The company posted a rise of 12.95% in its net profit for the period after giving impact of scheme of arrangement for earlier periods at Rs 1755.93 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2014 as compared to Rs 1554.57 crore for the same quarter in the previous year.
