Neyveli Lignite to generate additional 1,500 MW power in 5 months

Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC), the public sector lignite mining and power generation enterprise owned new thermal power stations in state of Tamil Nadu would generate additional 1,500 MW power within five months. The four new thermal units with a capacity of 1,500 MW will be commissioned at Neyveli and Tuticorin.

Of the four units, the expansion of two units at Neyveli Thermal Power Station-II with a capacity of 250 MW each is on verge of completion at a cost of Rs 3,027.59 crore. Other two units with generating capacity of 500 MW each under a joint venture with Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation would also be commissioned within five months at a cost of about Rs 4,910 crore.

Neyveli Lignite Corporation is engaged in the business of lignite mining and power generation. At present, the company has four opencast lignite mines with a capacity of about 30.60 million tonnes per annum, and is generating 2490 MW of power.
