With global PV markets on rebound and demand building-up in the domestic market, Moser Baer is re-starting its photovoltaic (PV) expansion in a big way with plans to operationalise its new Chennai facility by end of FY12. Chennai site will entail 100 MW capacity in crystalline silicon and it would be operational by FY12 end.

Moser Baer's PV business has built an order book of about $350 million executable over the next 12-18 months, largely on the back of orders from Europe and India. Bulk of these orders is from the European market as well as domestic market.

The company also plans to double its PV capacity to 240 MW by FY11 end, and add an incremental 220MW (in crystalline silicon and thin film technologies) during FY12. This will take the overall PV capacities to 460 MW by FY12. The expansion involves an investment of Rs 450 crore in this year and Rs 1,000 crore next year, which will be funded from internal accruals of PV business, cash generated at MBIL and debt.crackcrack
