01 Jul 2010 Evaluate

Car market leader Maruti Suzuki India Ltd on Wednesday said that sales for the first quarter ending June 30, 2010, have grown 22-24 per cent over the corresponding period the previous year. Strong demand in the market combined with the growing rural sales has led to the robust growth in sales for the three-month period.

While the high demand is led by the Alto and the WagonR, the Swift, the Dzire and the Eeco have also done exceeding well. Maruti's strong performance for the quarter is marked by the fact that it reached its highest-ever monthly sales in May crossing the one-lakh milestone, clocking 1.02 lakh units.

In April, the first month of the quarter, it sold 93,058 units and in May, the company sold 102,175 vehicles. In 2009-10, the company also entered the big league of global automakers, with sales of over a million units (including exports).
