Coal India trades in jubilant mood on the bourses

Coal India is currently trading at Rs. 337.40, up by 11.90 points or 3.66% from its previous closing of Rs. 325.50 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 327.70 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 338.75 and Rs. 327.00 respectively. So far 498812 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 10 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 422.30 on 31-May-2011 and a 52 week low of Rs. 288.95 on 25-Feb-2011.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 339.05 and Rs. 313.05 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 213366.79 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 90.00% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 7.36% and 2.64% respectively. 

State-run Coal India’s (CIL) management has agreed to a wage hike of 25% for its three lakh-odd mine workers as against a 100% hike that the unions attached to the country’s largest coal miner had demanded last year.

Currently, the company’s wage bill for its workers is Rs 15,000 crore a year and a 25% hike entails an additional financial burden of around Rs 4,000 crore a year for five years with effect from July 2011.

Meanwhile, the basic salary of a Coal India worker is about Rs 8,320 per month.

Coal India is the largest coal producing company in the world. The company also produces non-coking coal and coking coal of various grades for diverse applications.
