SBI cuts home loan processing fee

16 Jan 2012 Evaluate

State Bank of India (SBI) in a bid to increase its market share has trimmed the home loan processing fee. The bank will now charge Rs 10,000 as processing fee on loans above Rs 75 lakh from Rs 20,000 charged earlier. Similarly for loans between Rs 30 lakh to 75 lakh, the fee has been reduced to Rs 6,500 from Rs 10,000 earlier. The new fee structure is applicable from January 11, 2012.

This move can be seen as the pioneering step from the bank where the other lenders would follow it soon. However, for loans below Rs 30 lakh the processing fee would continue to be 0.25% of the loan amount.

Among its competitors, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank charges 0.5% of the loan amount for home loans both floating and fixed while Bank of Baroda charges 0.4% of the loan amount or maximum limit of Rs 50,000, and Bank of India charges Rs 20,000 flat fee for housing loans between Rs 25 lakh to 75 lakh.
