Neyveli Lignite Corporation's (NLC) mining operations at the Cuddalore District has been partially affected since November 12, 2014 due to excessive rainfall. The pumping out of excess water from the mines is in progress.
On account of the above, due to supply of wet condition of lignite, generation of power has been partially reduced in all power stations. Normalcy in operation is expected shortly. This is not an unusual occurrence as this occurs normally during North-East monsoon between October to December every year.
NLC is engaged in the business of lignite mining and power generation. At present, the company has four opencast lignite mines with a capacity of about 30.60 million tonnes per annum, while it can produce about 2,740 MW of power from four power plants.
