Larsen & Toubro’s metallurgical and materials handling company, part of its construction division, has bagged new orders worth Rs 1,610 crore from Tata Steel, Indiabulls Power and other customers in the first quarter (April-June). Major portion of these orders pertain to Tata Steel’s Kalinga Nagar project in Orissa. Apart from constructing the entire coke oven and by-product plant, the company is also providing detailed engineering and supply of balance of plant.
The company is planning to construct the first coke oven battery at the plant in 2.5 years. Apart from the coke oven plant, it also received several orders for steel melt shop construction from Tata Steel.
L&T has also got Rs 240 crore order from Indiabulls Power for civil and construction works for coal handling and ash handling plants for its thermal power projects in Maharashtra’s Amravati and Nasik. The project has to be completed in 23 months.
Recently, L&T BPP Tollway, a SPV incorporated by L&T Infrastructure Development Projects had signed the concession pact with National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for four laning of the 244 km stretch of NH14 between Beawar and Pindwara situated in the state of Rajasthan. The project would be executed on BOT DBFO (design, build, finance and operate) basis, with a concession period of 23 years.
The company’s net profit after tax for the fourth quarter rose by 17.25% at Rs 1686.21 crore as compared to Rs 1438.10 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2010. Its total income has increased by 13.23% at Rs 15754.03 crore for the quarter under review from Rs 13913.09 crore in the corresponding previous quarter.
