Larsen & Toubro and UK-based Howden Global have signed a joint venture to design, engineer, manufacture and supply axial fans and air pre-heaters to Indian thermal power plants ranging between 100 MW and 1,200 MW.

Howden supplies fans, rotary heat exchangers, compressors and gas cleaning equipment to key industries, including power generation, petrochemicals, steel making, mining and cement production worldwide.

The joint venture will invest Rs 100 crore to set up a facility at Hazira, Gujarat, expected to begin operations in 2011. The partnership will offer Howden access to the fast growing Indian power plant equipment market. The manufacture of fans and air-heaters will add to L&T power's portfolio of products giving it a ‘distinct edge' in the power plant market.

The axial fans are designed to work within an operational temperature range of up to 200°C. Air pre-heaters in power boilers collect heat in the hot gas stream being discharged to the chimney and transfer it to the cold air stream entering the boiler.

Howden, headquartered in Renfrew, UK, employs over 3,800 people in 17 countries. It is owned by Charter International plc, headquartered in Dublin and listed on the London Stock Exchange. Howden has over 100 years of experience in supplying fans and rotary heat exchangers to the power market across the globe.crackcrack
