Orient Green Power Company sells 6,768 RECs amounting Rs 2.04 crore

Orient Green Power Company (OGPL), a leading independent renewable energy-based power generation company in India has sold 6,768 RECs at Rs 3,051 per REC in the exchange, realizing Rs 2.04 crore. This event marks for the first time that the company has sold RECs at such volumes, demonstrating considerable gain in realization for OGPL in addition to the gain in revenue from sale of power. For the rest of FY12, OGPL anticipates to generate somewhere over 50,000 RECs for sale.

A significant portion of the company’s new capacity additions will be registered under the REC regime. Currently, five of the company’s Biomass plant which amount to a total of 52.5MW are registered for REC, and four of these five plants are presently operational.

OGPL is a renewable energy venture of the Shriram group. The company is a renewable energy producer in India focused on the development, ownership, and operation of wind, biomass and small hydel projects. The company currently has an aggregate installed capacity of 196 MW, comprising 156 MW from wind power and 40 MW biomass projects. It is one of the top two independent operators and developers of wind farms in India based on aggregate installed capacity.
