Bajaj Auto to manufacture two and three-wheelers at Chakan plant

Bajaj Auto, country's second largest two wheeler maker plans to manufacture two- and three-wheelers utilizing the plot of land it had acquired at Chakan, near Pune instead of manufacturing 4-wheelers there. It has approached to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) for the revised plan.

The company has acquired 250-acre plot of land in 2008 for a 4-wheeler project, when the prospect of the Bajaj-Renault ultra low-cost car was its height but the relationship did not materialize as expected. Bajaj Auto has planned to continue with its own 4-wheeler - christened RE60 and announced that it will be made at Aurangabad.

Bajaj Auto, the country's second largest two-wheeler maker’s monthly sales for January 2012 rose by 8% at 337,000 units, marginally lower than estimated. The exports for the month rose 13% and the numbers of units sold were 116,000 units.
